Odds & Ends
A number of visitors made interesting and useful comments this week. My response follows each in italics.
“if u truly want feedback – i think it is amazing – i suspect u b a household name very soon! Has anyone commented on the font size? i’m sure it’s just me and my aweful vision but the actual recipes were a strain to see, however i’m sure because u have so much great info u might have to use that font size…”
Actually, 2 visitors had trouble with the font. If you had a similar experience, I’d like to know about it.
“Your website is just wonderful. First of all it is interesting, with several things going on at once, but still clear and very appealing. The colors you have chosen and the setting in your kitchen are very attractive and I must say that your personal style and delivery is elegant and gracious. Since I am very interested in the type of cooking that you do, that is healthy cooking that does not sacrifice taste and quality, it is a website I would visit. I am increasingly focused, myself on the health issues, but probably not as diligent in fat reduction as you are.
Again, from a purely personal point of view, I would suggest maintaining, the joy of food and the emotion of food as well as approaching the preparation in a “clinical”, very professional manner, although it depends on who your audience is…”
I certainly feel “the joy of food and the emotion of food” very intensely and I try to inject a little humor and playfulness into the audio-visual material. If I come across as “clinical” when I demonstrate techniques, it may be due to my earnest desire to convey information. In addition, as I’ve said in other contexts, I believe that cooking full-flavored healthy food is HARD, and so–for me– it may be a bit less joyful than its conventional counterpart.
“Hi congratulations on the site, it looks great. I want to try some of the recipes already. One thing I noticed and it might be because I did not upgrade my internet explorer – is some of the pages appear blank/empty although they are not. I can scroll down to the bottom and find the information I was looking for/clicked on but some people may not think to scroll to the bottom. ”
If you are having difficult viewing certain aspects of this website, it is due– according to my web design team– to your browser’s limitations. These very talented designers are trying to “wean” people (their term) from Internet Explorer 6 and move them into IE8, Firefox, or some equivalent. If you are not quite ready to take this developmental step, you can still visit and view the website, but your experience will be hampered by your technology.
“I am hoping that people who have fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue find your web site. I believe that there may be some evidence based research supporting dietary changes with the use of whole foods for people with FMS and CFS. My experience in working with folks with FMS and CFS is that with close attention to diet and nutrition, they may experience changes in how they feel. Of course, nutrition is only one part of it the management of these complex syndromes.”

There’s no question that diet influences physiologic states and it would be wonderful if a shift in the direction of whole foods were to help the people to whom you refer. Re “whole foods”: Next week’s recipe (see Recipe Preview ) showcases a truly whole whole grain.

Deb,
Congratulations and a big thanks for all this info! I will be a constant visitor even with my ancient computer!! LOL I will pass this site on to my friends. Every one of them is interested in going the “Whole Food” route. Maybe this will give them the “nudge”.
Wishing you all the best, Mel
